5 Fun Winter Activities for Kids

Winter doesn’t have to mean endless screen time or cabin fever. ❄️ When the days are shorter and the temperatures drop, it’s the perfect opportunity to slow down and create meaningful moments with your kids. From cozy indoor fun to simple activities that spark creativity and laughter, winter can be full of joy and connection. Here are 5 fun winter activities for kids that will keep little hands busy, imaginations growing, and family memories blooming all season long.

1.) If there is snow on the ground this one is always a fun activity: Snow Painting. You can grab some spray bottles and/or squeeze bottles from the dollar along with food coloring. Pour some water with your choice of food coloring into the bottles. Then let the kids paint the snow in your yard. It is quick to set up but loads of fun and still gets the kids outside even in the cold. Just make sure to have some hot cocoa ready for them when they are done.

2.) Have extra delivery boxes from all the online items you ordered for Christmas? Then you should let your kiddos try: Box Decorating. Let the kids go crazy with decorating those old boxes with stuff from around the house. Markers, paint, crayons, construction paper, glitter glue. I know those things can be expensive if you don't have them but my favorite place to shop (not a promotion) is the dollar store. But let them be creative with it whether just for fun or prepping for Valentines Day.

3.) An oldie but a goodie: Indoor Camping. And I don't mean the quick flashlight on the floor pretending to toast marshmallows. Build a fort with your kids! Might just be my opinion but forts are always fun. Or if you have a smaller tent then set that up. Bust out the sleeping bags too. Use your imagination to pretend your in a forest needing to set up camp for the night. It will make it more fun and memorable for the kids.

4.) Make some snowmen that you can keep inside with: TP Roll Snowman. Take some toilet paper rolls and paint them white. Once they are dry you can paint some details like the eyes and nose. You can use construction paper to make a hat. And if you have yarn or pipe cleaners you can use those for a scarf or you can also make the scarf from construction paper.

5.) Experiment time, so grab some snow and salt for a: Controlled Snowball/Ice experiment. We originally did this with ice (can be found here https://www.adventuresofpookie.com/post/experiment-controlled-ice). However since it is winter you could substitute the ice for packed snowballs and see if it has a similar affect. You can use a cupcake pan to keep them separated.
