Confessions of a New Mother: Mental Health

Updated: Nov 30, 2022

By Makayla Hill

What's it like being a mother? It's an amazing experience, from carrying my daughter to having her and going through my body changing, then just watching her grow. It's been going by super fast, or so it feels like.

Quick bio: My name is Makayla, I am 20 years old and just had my first baby. Her name is Ezmeray.

The day my life changed was when my daughter arrived, and it changed for the better. Because in all honesty if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be trying this hard to get my life together.

Now I will say some days are better than others but it's all worth it, it really is. My daughter made me a better person.

I wasn't in the best situation before I got pregnant and when I found out I was pregnant I was full of emotions. I was happy but scared and also didn't believe it until I got my second ultrasound at 20 weeks.

The real truth about being a mother and having postpartum depression. These feelings can make it hard for you to take care of yourself and your baby.

And when you have pospartum it is not always easy to communicate with your partner because they may not understand completely. Which is okay but try to let them in because you need them, and it will help you in the long run. I also learned that communicating can help your partner so they can try to help and not worry.
